The NRW JUNIOR BALLET is based in the Ballettzentrum Westfalen. This architecturally unique building in idyllic “Westfalenpark” has established itself as an integral part and creative center of the cultural scene in the city of Dortmund.
Through a rededication of the former Solar Energy Forum at “Westfalenpark,” the center’s opening was enabled by the efforts of RWE Energie AG in late 2008. It has since notably improved the training and rehearsal conditions of Ballet Dortmund. Next to the Company, the new spaces have facilitated Schoolmotions, the integrative youth project of Ballet Dortmund, and the affiliated Seniorentanztheater (senior dance theater). Amateur dancers and students of dance can train in a professional atmosphere at regularly offered Open Classes.
Ballet Director Xin Peng Wang uses his Company’s home also for performances and innovative presentations created especially for the Ballettzentrum.
Furthermore, the house has become a space of various encounters. Workshops, matinees and vernissages that complement the ballet program of Theater Dortmund offer additional insights to everyone interested in dance, and they also allow Ballet Dortmund to open up to its audience. Seminars and conferences, for instance the National Conference of Ballet and Dance Theater Directors, document the status of Ballet Dortmund in the national and international dance scene. Since 2013, the Ballettzentrum has been the nationwide seminar venue of “Deutscher Berufsverband für Tanzpädagogik e.V.” (German Association of Dance Pedagogy).
